Family Conference

Four times a year, stop and ask how your student is really doing. Your student reviews the quarter, you review it too, and then you sit down together to compare notes and set the next goals.

Why a conference at home?

Schools stop every quarter to look at the whole child. At home, the days run together, so a small problem can grow for months before anyone names it. A planned conversation catches it early. It also gives your student a voice. Children often see their own struggles more clearly than we expect, if we ask.

A Family Conference also helps with an honest tension. Parents think in years: a capable, faithful adult. Children think in days: get it done, earn something, avoid the hard part. Both are real. Instead of pretending they match, each goal gets two halves: a Now that your student actually cares about, and a Why that you explain out loud.

Who it’s for

A good fit

  • You use School Launch as your main program, with a year plan and several core courses.
  • You want a regular, friendly check on progress, habits and character.
  • Your student is old enough to say what is going well and what is hard (younger children can draw or talk it through).

Feel free to skip it

  • You use one course, a worksheet, a guide or a video.
  • You already have a review rhythm that works.
  • You’re simply not ready yet. You can turn it on any time.

Courses, worksheets, videos, skill checks and the year plan work exactly the same whether you use Family Conferences or not. There are no pop-ups or reminders anywhere on the site.

When

On a 36-week year, hold a conference at the end of each quarter, and a 10-minute Quick Check-In about halfway through. These are suggestions, not deadlines. If you miss one, just pick up with the next.

Quarter 1Check-in week 4 or 5
Conference week 9
Quarter 2Check-in week 13 or 14
Conference week 18, after midterms
Quarter 3Check-in week 22 or 23
Conference week 27
Quarter 4Check-in week 31 or 32
Conference week 36, the year-end review

How long, and who leads, depends on age. Fill in the reviews a day or two before, separately, and then meet.

K–2Parent leads. 20–30 minutes. Your child talks or draws; you write their words.
3–5Parent leads; student shares first. About 30 minutes, with short prompts.
6–8Led together. About 45 minutes. A full written self-review.
9–12Student leads. 45–60 minutes, adding transcript, plans after high school, work and owning their goals.

Turning it on and off

  • Turn on with the button below. That’s the only step, and there is no account to create.
  • Turn off any time from this page. You choose whether to keep your saved reviews on this device or delete them.
  • Private: everything you type is saved only in this browser. Nothing you type is sent to School Launch or anyone else. Use Backup to move it to another device.
  • Prefer paper? The printable packet works without turning anything on.
