Read aloud: The story. One day a huge crowd followed Jesus, and He fed them all with five loaves and two fishes. The next day the people came looking for more bread. Jesus told them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger. Bread fills our stomachs for a day, but Jesus gives life that lasts forever.
Read aloud: How Russian sounds. Я́блоко is YAH-bluh-kuh, loud at the start. Арбу́з is ahr-BOOS. Суп is soup, almost like English. Ка́ша is KAH-shuh. Before eating, Russians say Прия́тного аппети́та! (pree-YAHT-nuh-vuh ah-pee-TEE-tuh).
Read aloud: Say it and move. Crunch a pretend apple: я́блоко! Hold a huge round watermelon: арбу́з! Slurp from a spoon: суп! Stir a pot of porridge: ка́ша!

Read aloud: Ка́ша is one of the oldest Russian foods. A Russian saying goes: Щи да ка́ша — пи́ща на́ша, cabbage soup and porridge are our food. Buckwheat porridge, гре́чка, is a favorite breakfast.
- Saying yah-BLOH-ko. The loud part is first: YAH-bluh-kuh.
- Saying ar-BOOZ with a z. At the end of a word з sounds like s: ahr-BOOS.
Set up a play store with real or pretend food. The child is the shopper and asks for each thing in Russian with пожа́луйста; the store keeper says Вот! (here!).
Say this: “Tell me what you learned today.”
Listen for: Name apple, watermelon, soup and porridge in Russian.; Say Прия́тного аппети́та! before a meal.; Hear that Jesus is the bread of life.
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
